HAS YOUR MEMBERSHIP LAPSED?

There are several people on the committee working really hard processing memberships, tracking down lapsed members and generally badgering people to pay, as memberships are now two months late.

I know you'll appreciate we don't do this for fun but to keep our club going in hard times, so please help us out if you've not paid yet and pass your membership forms and money to Colin Mackrill at treasurer@codicotetennisclub.co.uk

25th February 2010

Hi All,

Hard to believe but it is that time of year when we have picked the squads for this years Datchworth Summer League.

As per previous years, a selection committee was chosen by the clubs committee to carry this out. The members of this years committee were Ian Mathieson, Ian Broad, Des Alcock, Ian 'Geordie' Clark, Sally White, Rachael Elmhirst and Mike Woodley. We also took into account feedback received from last years Datchworth captain's which was very valuable in the selection process.

A big thank you must be said to the selectors and captain's for the time and effort put into this task. It is never an easy job and can be a bit thankless but I hope that people appreciate that the selection committee has tried to be fair and objective in their choices. We have tried to keep the club competitive but also strived to ensure that all people who wish to play do get some matches.

Also a big thank you to the people who have agreed to be captain's this year. Some have stayed the same but some have been changed to give other people a chance. Captain's in team order 1-10 are:
Ian Mathieson, Ian Broad, Dave Foster, Louise Pitts, Kathryn Brodie, Colin Mackrill, Lisa Griffiths, Mairi Watts, Mark Knapper and Rob Gillard.

The captain's will be in touch with their squads to organise practice sessions, etc.

Here are the teams:

Look forward to seeing you all on court playing with the pride and passion that we associated with Codicote Tennis Club.

Cheers,

Ian 'Geordie' Clark

1st November 2009

Hi All,

In response to members feedback, for the first time in the clubs history, we will be entering four teams into the East Herts Mixed Doubles Winter League Tournament.

The format of the matches is two men (man A and man B) and two ladies (lady A and lady B) forming a team. Man A/lady A are pair 1 and man B/lady B are pair 2. Each pair stays together and plays the other teams pairs - so you basically play two best of three sets mixed doubles matches.

Team 1 will be in division 2 (quite a strong league), team 2 will be in division 5b and teams 3 & 4 will be in division 7 (so they will have a big match against each other in March!). The season runs between January - March with matches being played either on a Saturday or a Sunday. Each team will have 5 matches, some played at home and some played away.

Because of this being a different format to Datchworth League and because it is played on weekends during Winter, this league does not appeal to everyone so we need to see who wishes to play and to organise players along different lines to how the Datchworth League teams are run. So, too allow us to plan ahead, if you are interested in playing, could you please email Geordie on monkeymatchsec@googlemail.com to let us know if you wish to take part. We will try to accomodate as many requests to play as possible but please understand that we may not be able to guarantee everybody a game and need to balance players availability against the need to keep at least a couple of teams of competitive.

Cheers

Parish Pag for October 2009

September has been an incredibly busy month this year. The tennis tournament finals were held on a very cold and breezy Sunday the 13th with the standard of tennis being extremely high and rather dominated by the younger section of the club! The results are as follows:

Mens Singles                                     Lewis Andrews

Ladies Singles                                    Evie Williams

Mens Doubles                                   Stuart Rose and Lewis Andrews

Ladies Doubles                                  Diane Boardman and Evie Williams

Mixed Doubles                                 Evie Williams, Nick Bayston and Will Rogers

Mens Plate                                         Ian Broad

Ladies Plate                                        Diane Boardman

To start proceedings the coin was tossed by James Doherty, just as he did at Wimbledon earlier this year. Two Wimbledon umpires helped to keep everything running smoothly. Only the weather let us down.

Also in September Sarah Doherty hosted a 'hog roast' at her home to raise cash and awareness for the charity CHAT (Codicote Heart Awareness team). Just over 100 attended and over £5,000 was raised. Sarah works tirelessly for this cause and James continues to thrive.

Jeux Sans Frontieres proved to be very popular again this year with team Brazil beating the opposing teams of Mexico, Wales, England Egypt and India. Although arm wrestling was forbidden this year, the table football proved just as competitive. Well done to Stephen and Katie Pyle for organising yet another very successful and fun event.

Our next social event is at the Sports and Social Club on the 12th December which is the annual Christmas Party, where everyone has the chance to dress in their finest and dance the night away after the awards ceremony. More details will be provided soon.

For any more information on all things regarding tennis or table tennis please contact Mark Knapper at mark.knapper@astralisgroup.com. Also take a look at the regularly updated website www.codicotetennisclub.co.uk

Thanks very much.

October 7th 2009

Hi

We have decided to organise a Mixed Doubles tournament to run throughout the winter this year with a final played on Wimbledon Draw day, 25th April 2009.

It is a handicapped tournament with lower ranked Datchworth players being awarded more points and is the same format as the Valentines Cup (those of you that played in this will hopefully agree it was a successful and fair competition).

If you would like to enter, you need to find a partner (No individual entries will be accepted. Find a partner!).

Let me know by October 31st 2009 if you would like to enter and of course all entrants are expected to try to contact the opposition rather than let the same old people do it. Try it, it's not that hard to pick up the phone or drop an email and everybody else appreciates it! The password for contact numbers on the website is 'enjoy'.

For a full set of rules click on the following link:

http://www.codicotetennisclub.co.uk/player.html

Please can all entrants read these rules before playing as they are not as simple as usual!

9th September 2009

Hi all

Before I run through the line up for final's day, can I say thanks a lot for making it such a great tournament this year. There have been over 150 matches and I think I've only had to toss a coin on one match so thanks for making Ian's and my life fairly easy (!). If you have any comments good or bad about the way the tournament has been run this year, please drop me an email and I will try to explain why we have made any of the decisions that we have. Plus, we are always looking at ways that we can make the tournament better so feel free to contact me.

On final's day we will be providing a bar and BBQ (at lunch and dinner) plus some cakes and coffee/tea etc. Stephen Pyle is going to be doing the BBQ but if you can spare a bit of time to help him flip some burgers so he can watch a bit of tennis himself, please email familypyle-ks@yahoo.co.uk . All offers would be greatly appreciated. Talking of Stephen, he is still looking for 3 more teams to enter Jeux Sans-Frontieres on 26th September so if you want to go down in Codicote Folklore then please let Stephen know your team (when the 8 team limit is reached, no more teams will be allowed to enter).

We are honoured to have a couple of professional umpires for the Men's and Ladies singles final's this year. Mel Billingham & Fiona Ross  have officiated at the Australian Open as well as many other competitions and I am sure you will all make them feel very welcome at Codicote. Plus, James Doherty will be tossing the coin for the Men's final like he did at Wimbledon, although we think Lewis & Tom are a bit better than Federer and Roddick!

So, onto the schedule for the day. It is the year of the juniors this year and we have four players under the age of 18 involved (is it time for a veterans competition next year?) so an extra well done to them and it is evidence that our policy on attracting and supporting juniors into the club is reaping benefit now and for the future.

Sunday 13th September, Court One, times are estimates.

10.00 Ladies Doubles: Nicki Lloyd Taylor & Rachael Elmhirst versus Dianne Boardman & Evie Williams (Umpire to be announced)

11.45 Men's Doubles: Tom Boardman & Mike Woodley versus Stuart Rose & Lewis Andrews (Umpire Richard Capie)

13.30 Ladies Singles: Nicki Lloyd Taylor versus Evie Williams (Umpire Fiona Ross)

15.15 Men's singles: Lewis Andrews versus Tom Boardman (Umpire Mel Billingham)

17.00 Jacquie Foster Cup: Anna Parker, Mark Thomas & Ian Mathieson versus Evie Williams, Will Rogers & Nick Bayston (Umpire Ian Broad)

Court Two

11.45 Mens Plate: Mark Thomas OR Matt Pitts versus Paul Thomas OR Ian Broad (Umpire Tony Putterill)

13.30 Ladies Plate: Sally White versus Dianne Boardman (Umpire Lisa Griffiths)

15.15 Junior competition:   (Umpire James Doherty)

PC Pete Collins

P.S. If you didn't make a final, adult coaching starts Thursday. Contact Hamid on (07764 161615) or see www.overandin.com

For news updates, we've added TWITTER to the home page of the website. We will try to update it regularly with important news. Also a new two minute video on different aspects of coaching is available each day from the home page of the website.

29th August 2009

Hello everyone

I hope you're enjoying the summer break and are ready to work on your game over the coming months.

Below is this term's coaching programme which starts week commencing 7th September.  It's worth pointing out that we're really keen to up the numbers from last term so we've made the cost even cheaper for the 10 sessions (please note that the Club still gets 10% of all coaching fees).

I know times are tough at the moment and that tennis is sometimes seen as a bit of a luxury rather than a neccessity but I hope the drop in price encourages more people to sign up for coaching this term.

In response to some of the questions that have popped up in the past, I have also attached some terms and conditions that I'd like you to read which will, hopefully, clarify any points regarding cancellations / missed sessions etc.

To sign up for any of the classes please email hamidhejazi@overandin.com with your booking or call 01223 847472. With regards to payment please state whether you'll be sending a cheque, like to pay by card over the phone or  make a bank transfer.  Once we receive your email we will contact you to confirm the booking and payment details.

Look forward to seeing you on court.

Hamid

Terms and conditions for group/schools coaching with Over & in

When paying for a group coaching session at any Over & in associated club, your payment guarantees the following:

·        Your place is secured for the duration of the term

·        That the same coach will run the full terms coaching unless ill or away due to unforeseen circumstances

·        That the appropriate court size and equipment will be used

For cancellations and missed sessions the following terms apply:

·        The cost of coaching is a set fee for a term. The fee takes into account that some sessions per term may cancelled due to bad weather. If all or none of the sessions are cancelled due to bad weather there will be no refunds or extra charges.  Summer and winter prices will also vary due to weather and demand.

·        Over & in reserve the right to cancel any session before the start of term if under subscribed or for any other reason. If this happens a full refund will be given.

·        If a session is cancelled due to the coach being unavailable and irreplaceable, an extra session will be added the following week at the end of term. It is the responsibility of the customer to be available for that week. This does not apply to schools coaching.

·        If more than one session is missed due to the coach being unavailable and irreplaceable the customer will receive a refund for the number of sessions missed. This will be the cost of the term divided by the total number of sessions. E.g. if the term costs £50, and there are 10 sessions in the term, 3 of which are missed due to the coach being unavailable and irreplaceable, you will receive a £15 refund at the end of the term.

·        Schools coaching will receive a refund for any missed session due the coach being unavailable and irreplaceable.

·        Over & in will give at least 24 hours notice if a session is going to be cancelled due to lack of coach availability. (unless unavoidable i.e. car accident on route)

·        If the coaching is cancelled due to bad weather you will not be entitled to a refund.  (the coach will always be on site and ready to work unless the conditions are unsafe to play)

·        If a customer can provide a doctors certificate that proves  that an illness or injury has been sustained and that you are unable to complete the coaching course, a credit note will be given for the remaining sessions

·        If you are unable to attend a session you will not be entitled to a refund.

25th April

Congratulations to Codicote's mens singles team, who won division 3 of the Hertfordshire Inter Club Mens Winter Singles League.

Very well done and well played to team members Lewis Andrews, Thomas Boardman, Richard Capie, Stuart Rose, Peter Collins and Ian Mathieson.

Also thanks to Ian Mathieson for a great effort in the captain's role. The team will now be playing in division 2 of this league next year.

10th March 2009

Gentlefolk,

As per previous years, a selection committee, appointed by the club's main committee, met on Sunday to discuss Datchworth teams for 2009.

As per club members requests, we have tried to balance the needs of keeping the club competitive with the needs of giving people more matches. With this in mind, we have added an extra team for Datchworth this year, which means that we will have ten teams playing and should give people more opportunity to play.

Please also note that whilst there is a rule which restricts how many times people can 'play up' in Datchworth League, the squads aren't set in stone, so if a team is short of players for some reason (injury, sickness, holiday, etc.) then players may be asked to play up or down, which will also increase playing opportunities for players. Jenny Mathieson has also made herself available to play in a 'floating' role, so can be called on if a lady player is required by a team.

We have appointed nine team captains, but need a 10th team captain, so will be looking for a volunteer to captain the 10th team. Captains are shown in bold print at the head of the teams below. I will also place a printed copy of the squads on the clubs noticeboard at the Social Club.

We understand that some people will be pleased and some disappointed by where they have been placed. However, please be assured that we have tried to be as fair as possible about where people have been placed and took lots of factors into consideration. If anybody particularly wishes to discuss the squads or where they have been placed then please contact Geordie and he will answer any queries.

Datchworth league starts on Monday 27th April (next month!) so not long to go!

May I also extend a big thank you to the selection committee, Nick Bayston, Ian Mathieson, Sally White, Dianne Boardman and Mike Woodley. Some Geordie bloke also took part! These people didn't just give up their Sunday evening, but also spent a lot of time researching players and trying to find out who wished to play. A lot of debate took place about players who play at ALL levels of the club and some tough decisions had to be made. We think that we have covered everybody who expressed an interest in playing so apologies if we have missed anybody out.

Hope to catch up with people on/off court soon!

Here's to another successful season - COME ON!!!

Regards,

Ian 'Geordie' Clark
