Codicote Tennis Club
***Important update: court damage and next steps*****
Following the storm on 16 July and the heartbreaking news of the damage to courts 2 & 3, we have closed these two courts for health and safety reasons.
We realise the situation, which was outside our control, is not ideal, however the Committee & the Parish Council have formed a working party with the sole aim of returning the courts to their original condition as soon as practically possible. Our contacts at the LTA have been informed.
The Committee appreciate members continued patience and understanding whilst we work through the issues. The immediate next step is to commission a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey to properly assess the damage - the survey will use electromagnetic radar to take readings and measure the subsurface features including voids. We will of course keep you updated when we have more information.
The Club will continue to operate albeit with only one court for the time being, which means availability and court time is precious. Please can members ensure courts are pre-booked or cancelled if they are not required. Please also keep an eye on the court bookings sheet on the website to see what's on.
Our regular tennis sessions will continue on court one as follows:
We will be implementing a quick rotation system to ensure everyone spends as much time on court as possible. The server will come off court after each game and everyone rotates. Next person joins for a new game and we repeat again etc etc. Let's keep the spirt going - Please come along and join in.
Sat - 10.30am to 11.30am - Cardio Tennis
Tues - 8pm to 10pm - Adult Group coaching
Guy Thomas will update you if there are any changes. Please also remember to check the court bookings sheet.
Rusty Rackets revised times:
Sat - 9am to 10.30am
Tues - 10.30am to 12.00 noon
County & Hot Rackets Matches:
Both Welwyn and Digswell Tennis Club have kindly offered us the use of their courts for our matches over the coming weeks, which is extremely generous and helpful. Team captains will contact players direct to confirm where matches are to be held.
With only one court we've decide not to run the Plate competition this year, and the Finals matches will be managed over two days as follows. Timings to be confirmed:
Sunday 6 Sept - 5 x Adult Finals (Ladies & Men's Singles, Ladies Doubles, Mike Parker Trophy & Jacquie Foster Cup)
We are a fully inclusive club and offer tennis for all irrelevant of age, ability and financial circumstances. Established in 1967 as a single court club based at the St Albans Road recreation ground, the club has grown and developed significantly in recent years. We now have three floodlight courts and over 100 players, both adult and juniors, representing the club in competitive matches as well as a similar number of players who prefer to play socially. It is this balance that makes us different from the larger tennis centres across Hertfordshire and helps us create a fantastic social atmosphere.
The last few years have been incredibly busy, culminating in the rebuilding of courts 2 and 3 and the successful creation of a new junior club session.
Club Tennis Sessions

"Rusty Rackets" sessions for beginners and those returning to the game are held at 9.30am on Tuesday and Saturday morningsf you are a little bit nervous and haven't played for a long time, you may want to come along to 'Rusty Racquets' first until you find your feet.
